The Wattle Point Jetty and Boat Ramp, situated in the peaceful township of Wattle Point within the Forge Creek area of East Gippsland, sits on the northern shores of Lake Victoria as part of the
Wattle Point Gippsland Lakes Reserve. The site features a medium-sized jetty with automatic lighting and a single-lane concrete boat ramp, alongside a spacious dirt car park that provides easy access for vehicles and trailers.
The ramp is suitable for small boats, though it’s best to avoid launching during strong easterly, southerly, or westerly winds, as the shallow waters can get a little choppy. On calm days, however, it’s a pleasant and practical spot to launch a boat, cast a line, or simply enjoy the scenery.
Wattle Point is particularly popular in summer and autumn, offering spectacular sunrise views over the lake. The area’s shallow, clear waters make it a great swimming spot for both locals and visitors, with soft sandy stretches along the shore and grassy areas that provide some shade during warmer months.
While there are picnic tables and toilets located a short walk or drive to the south, facilities at the jetty itself are limited, so it’s best to come prepared and remember to take all rubbish with you.
The surrounding landscape, dotted with flowering wattles, banksias, and tea trees, adds to the relaxed, natural charm of the location.
It’s a quiet, unspoiled corner of the Gippsland Lakes, perfect for a morning of fishing, an afternoon swim, or a peaceful picnic by the water; just don’t forget the insect repellent, as mosquitoes can be active around dawn and dusk.
