Avalon Beach Boat Ramp

The Avalon Beach boat ramp is a small but handy spot for launching smaller boats. With two concrete lanes, it provides access to the prime fishing waters of Port Phillip and Corio Bay. While the water here is shallow and the ramps are somewhat exposed to the elements, the jetties on both sides help break the waves, making launching a little easier.

Thanks to recent renovations by the Victorian government, this ramp has seen some major improvements. Both jetties were extended, wave screens were added, overflow parking was upgraded, and a security camera was installed. Parking space has significantly increased, with 25 new car and trailer spots added to the existing 11, giving both local and visiting boaters more room.

The western jetty now extends an additional 15 meters, providing more space for boaters to tie up while parking their trailers. Meanwhile, the eastern jetty has been rebuilt and extended by six metres, effectively doubling the available tie-up space. The upgraded jetties now feature wave baffles, which help calm the waters and make launching and retrieving boats much smoother. A dedicated water collection area was also added, so local aquaculture producers no longer need to block a ramp lane while pumping water.

Some ramp users have raised concerns about seaweed buildup in the area, which can make launching trickier at times. However, the ramp remains a great access point for boaters looking to explore the bay. Nearby, you'll find a toilet block and a secluded beach that’s perfect for sunbathing, wading, and exploring the shoreline. It’s also a fantastic place to take your dog for a walk and enjoy the coastal scenery.

If you’re thinking of buying a boat or upgrading your engine, Melbourne Marine Centre is worth the trip. Located just over an hour and a half from the ramp, they offer a great selection of Stacer and Northbank boats, along with Mercury outboard engines. They also have a well-stocked inventory of trailers, marine gear, fishing supplies, and all the essential boating equipment you might need.
