The Lake Nillahcootie
boat ramp is located on the Lima South in northeastern Victoria, 36 kilometres
south of Benalla. The name "Nillahcootie" is of Indian origin and is
reputed to mean "Blue House."
The concrete boat ramp
features a single lane, providing easy access for boaters using Nillahcootie
Dam. It is well-suited for launching jet skis, small boats, and tinnies.
However, boaters should be mindful of potential dangers associated with low
water levels and submerged hazards, exercising caution while on the water.
Lake Nillahcootie was
created to manage the flows of the Broken River for irrigation, domestic,
livestock, and urban water supply purposes. It is a popular destination for
barbecuing, picnicking, fishing, swimming, kayaking, and boating. The area is
scenic, offering plenty of shade, as well as excellent picnic and toilet
facilities. Ample parking is available nearby. The picnic and boating areas are
open to the public from 8:00 AM to sunset daily, but camping is not permitted.
Visitors are also welcome to explore the Spillway and the surrounding areas.
