Did you know lakes and ponds make for great fishing spots?
Whether you’re out in the middle of the lake on your Stacer boat or
along a nearby lake shore, you’re unlikely to have trouble finding fish. They
can be in deep or shallow water, near man-made objects or in open water.
Provided you know the lake’s structure, your fishing trip is almost guaranteed
to be a success. However, there are a couple of important things to consider
before you set out. Below are some useful tips to remember before you head out
to the lake to catch some fish!
Obtain a Fishing License
Make sure you have the appropriate fishing license and any
required stamps. You don't want to get into trouble or face fines from the authorities.
Check the area and ask local fishermen if a license is necessary for fishing in
the lake.
Master on Setting Your Hook
Sometimes, a proper hook set is the difference between
successfully catching a fish and the fish swimming away. Many beginner anglers
get too eager and try to bury their hook too soon which is a recipe for a
missed opportunity.
Generally, you should wait until you feel the full weight of
the fish before setting your hook.
Wait until you feel the fish tugging on your line, then reel
in any slack to keep the line tight. This will put you in a better position for
setting your hook. To set the hook, quickly and forcefully lift the rod tip.
This is a general guideline for setting your hook. With
enough practice, you'll develop a good sense of the force and timing needed for
an effective hook set.
Refrain From Making Loud Noises
Some fish can be easily spooked, so you don’t want to make
too much noise when you’re operating the boat. Try to keep your Mercury
outboard engine’s noise to a more subdued volume. Try to land your lures
gently in the water. Better yet, cast them past the strike zone and reel them
into the hot spot to avoid spooking fish. If your lure lands directly on top of
the fish, they may get spooked and swim away.
Use The Right Gear
One of the most challenging aspects of fishing for beginners
is understanding the various gear options and when to use them. If you're new
to fishing, it's a good idea to consult an experienced angler for advice on
what you'll need regarding rod action, fishing line, and hook size.
If we can give one piece of important advice, a basic
spinning rod paired with a monofilament line is suitable for most situations. Additionally, remember to equip your boat with essential accessories
to enhance and keep your angling experience safe, such as flotation devices,
marine GPS, fish finder equipment, a VHF radio, and a first aid kit.
Learn Your Fishing Knots
There is a wide variety of fishing knots that are best for
different fishing situations. It’s important to try and learn how to tie these
knots and when to use them. You can watch YouTube videos or read blogs to
master them.
Use a Bait Appropriate to the Fish You’re Going to Catch
One of the important things you need to remember is that you
want to match your bait or lure to whatever the fish are already eating in the
waters you are fishing. Using bait that resembles what they are already eating
is often the best way to get the fish to bite.
If, however, you’re reading this and you don’t have a
fishing boat yet, you can rent one in boat rental shops or visit your local
boat dealers. These dealers have various boats for sale for fishing that are
suited to your wants and needs. You can even get affordable boats or boats that
have sophisticated features in them.
